Definition

Bodystorming is a creative problem-solving technique that involves physically acting out scenarios or processes in order to better understand them and identify potential improvements. The term "bodystorming" combines the words "body," referring to physical movement, and "brainstorming," which refers to generating ideas through group collaboration.

During a bodystorming session, participants typically act out different roles within a scenario and experiment with various solutions to a given problem. By doing so, they can gain insights into how people interact with their environment, identify pain points and opportunities for improvement, and develop new concepts and prototypes.

Example

Use bodystorming to create a prototype of the new checkout area layout. Gather a diverse group of people who represent different perspectives on the issue, such as store employees, regular customers, and experts in ergonomics or human factors. Have everyone get up and move around as they act out the scenario of checking out at the store using the new layout. Encourage participants to provide feedback and suggestions for improving the prototype.
